Did anyone follow the “shenanigans” on COP 26? I know we have.
Like it or not, climate change is the greatest risk all of us are facing.
With storms, floods and wildfires escalating around the world, the UK, together with their partner Italy, hosted an event many believe to be the world’s last best chance to get runaway climate change under control.
Everyone has the responsibility to take charge and make a change to help our environment get better. But where do we start? Believe it or not, it’s the little things we do in our everyday lives as a habit that can really make the change. Join us as we dive deeper into greener choices we can make in our everyday lives.
1. Choosing sustainable materials
Unsurprisingly, the fashion industry is one of the largest polluting industries in the world. With fast fashion growing, companies are starting to lose sight of how they are affecting the environment to meet the needs of their consumers.
So what can you do as consumers? Shop better, of course. You can make a change by simply opting for sustainable materials. We dove deeper into sustainable materials that you can look out for when purchasing clothing to ensure that we are making the right choices for our environment. Read more about it here.
Renowned high-end fashion brands are also joining the movement to use sustainable material. With Gucci renouncing fur, Stella McCartney using lab-created ‘spider silk‘ and Trussardi using #MadeFromPiñatex® in haute couture, ‘sustainable’ is becoming a very stylish word!
2. Petrol? No, Electric
Sometimes, public transportation just doesn’t cut it. Cars definitely increase the accessibility and efficiency of clearing that errands list of yours. However, running on petrol is definitely not helping our environment at all.
Make the choice of electric cars or even hybrid cars! This makes driving that much better for the environment when you get your errands done.
Joining the movement of reducing CO2, British luxury automobile maker, Rolls-Royce, has announced that they will be launching their very own electric model soon! Read more about it here.
3. 3Rs, upcycling and buying better
We’ve all heard of the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. But how many of us actually practise it? Let’s all do our part by simply reducing our waste by avoiding what we don’t need, reusing everyday items that we will throw away without a second thought and recycling our waste, making sure we make the most out of the lifespan of the material.
Upcycling is also a great way to help save the environment and the best way to do that is through our old clothing. Turn these old pieces into something new with a little help from your trusty seamstress or even better, your own sewing machine! From jeans to shorts, T-shirts to tank tops, the possibilities are endless. Companies that are making head waves in the Vintage Tech market.
Last but most definitely not the least is buying better. Price is definitely something everyone looks out for when purchasing items but more often than not, the cheaper items may not be the best of qualities and they may spoil easily. Here at IRYNE, we are all about buying better. Choosing items that are made of better quality to ensure extended lifespan and evergreen styles that would fit anytime; past, present or future.
